Mom’s Night Out- Why It’s Important

Why is mom’s night out so  important?

Motherhood is not easy, you have to work 24 hours a day and some or all of those hours without pay, even on public holidays a mom’s work never ends.

As a mom, I know that even bedtime isn’t guaranteed as a time for rest. When you think that finally the day is over and you lie on your bed to get some sleep, then your baby wakes up for feeding,  or your kid is puking, or having night terrors or any of the other million situations that cause your kid to keep you up at night.

Therefore, we moms also need some free time to keep our sanity intact, but it does not mean that we do not love our children.  Sometimes it gets so exhausting and in order to take care of our kids in a better way, we need to HAVE A BREAK.

It is  REALLY IMPORTANT to have some free time, even if it is for a few hours. I have some fond memories since my child’s birth that did not involve my child at all (some were almost too fond if you know what I mean, wink wink). It’s okay for me to feel that way and want to continue making these memories.

Here are some more reasons why, as moms, we need to have a night out or occasional “me time”:

  1. Being a social animal, we mothers also crave social time with our friends. Hanging out with your friends helps you forget about all your problems and relieves your stressors which has a great impact on your health.
  2. Many moms go through Postpartum Depression (PPD), and some moms who have been diagnosed find that  having the option to  talk to people they trust can help when they are suffering from PPD, which up to 1 in 7 women experience after having a baby.
  3. If you do not have any experience related to children and problems related to them,  by going out and socializing with other moms,  you can ask experienced moms to mentor you. Most mothers are more than happy to give advice.
  4. Having personal space is really important for your mental health and there is no harm in going for a mom’s day out or moms night out once a week. It’s beneficial for all moms to create a weekly day for fun, as a human being you deserve to live your life at least once in a while.
  5. Sometimes we get so involved in being a mom, that we forget we are also normal human beings. Moms have dreams, goals, and ambitions like everyone else. However, in our daily routine, we do not get time to think about ourselves. So by hanging out with your friends and even spending time with your spouse will help you develop an identity beyond the parenting sphere.

Things to do with friends on a mom’s night out:

Frankly speaking, you can simply sit and talk friends or even binge watch Netflix with one close buddy.  However, there are also great ways to bound outside of your house.

Here are some of my favorite ideas for a mom’s night out:

  • You can go to a new restaurant with your friends.
  • Painting is a good therapy; you can do painting with your friends.
  • Go to a concert of your favorite and feel like a girl again by having a girl’s day out.
  • Visit a new city with your friends.
  • Play games with your friends like board games, card games.
  • Hit the beach and enjoy your day off to the fullest.
  • Go for Zumba with your friends.
  • Go for camping and have the best time of your life.
  • Join a book club.

Mom’s Night Out When You Don’t Have A Babysitter

If you don’t have daycare of a babysitter, you can always even try a girl’s day/night in. You can even just simply watch movies and drink wine once your child goes to bed! If your child has problems sleeping or is too young to sleep through the night, you can pick a time during their day when they rest, or put on their own movie in a different room if they are older.

In addition, if you cannot go out there are a few other choices. You can call your friends to your place and you can have breakfast together or even lunch or dinner, you guys can cook meals together, or play games together. You can even meet at the mall playcenter and let your kids play while you drink coffee and catch up.

Final thoughts:

We get it, you are a mom. However, you need to have your own time to relieve stress. You just have to leave that guilt behind and feel like you are not just a mom, you are also a woman who also wants to live her life. Even #strongwomen have their own needs.
