4 Easy Kids Crafts Ideas
Use these everyday items to create a fun and easy craft with your mini-me. No shopping trip needed! Show off your parenting skills with these cool kids crafts.
Why I Love Doing Kids Crafts
Crafts and art projects encourage creativity and are an important tool for any developing mind. I love doing craft projects with my son for his preschool learning that are simple and allow him to express himself and create something beautiful to keep. These projects are also great for summer learning (but they can be done any time of the year) to prevent summer learning loss.
The Downside Of Crafts
However, sometimes really fun crafts can be expensive! Especially when you are on a tight budget (I know the feeling).
Luckily I got you covered. The craft ideas listed below are not only easy to do, but also are convenient because they are made from items you can either find in your house or your backyard. These kids crafts are fun for almost any age!
I’ve done these craft ideas on multiple occasions with my son when he was at different ages. Each time he enjoyed the activity and each craft project was unique.
Bonus: Even better, there are different variations for each craft! Which means you can do these OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
Crafts Made From Items In Your Home
Awesome Craft Ideas
Here are four great craft projects that you can do right now to bond with your mini-me! Find everything you need in your home or your backyard.
These projects are great for allowing a child’s imagination to run wild and can have different themes for each project. (See paper plate project examples.)
1. Paper Plates Crafts
You can create numerous art projects with paper plates! Paper plate crafts are extremely easy and fun for kids. My son and I loved making the projects shown below.
For the snake project, we first used bingo daubers to create the spots on the snake. Then we cut a coil shape and added the eyes and lips at the end.

2. Painting On Rocks
Kids love rocks! Rocks are not only fun to search for but also fun to paint on! My son loves to collect rocks and wash them, and then sometimes we paint them! We recently created a bible theme rock set. So much fun!

3. Pan Art
There are unlimited options with this art project! Just get a pan and add paint, paper and a toy! Your kids will think that it is super fun that they get to use their toys for art!
4. Leaf Projects
There are many ways that you can reuse fallen leaves in your backyard.
In the example given below, my son and I painted several colors on leaves using a paintbrush and then pressed them to the paper to create a vibrant leaf project. You can also do this fun leaf rubbing craft.
As you can see, these kids crafts are easy, fun and are open to interpretation. Colors can be added or changed, and the designs and themes don’t always have to be the same.
Again, these projects are great for allowing kids to use their own creative brains to make something beautiful.
