I’ll be the first to admit it: I hate the taste of coconut. Or anything coconut flavored.
Coconut water (yuck)! Almond joy (eww)! Get me away from that s**t.
However, can’t stay away from coconut oil because it’s plethora of benefits. I’ll deal with the unpleasant taste and smell because I know that coconut oil has it’s benefits (and a lot of them to boot).
Coconut oil is commonly used for cooking purposes but surprisingly has many other benefits. From baking to reducing hangovers, coconut oil is a natural substance that is not being used enough.
The benefit of coconut oil is much greater than just it’s nutritional value. It’s popularity is rapidly growing and the ways to use it are growing as well.
Thanks to my endless love towards coconut oil, I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite uses for the oil that’s worth it’s weight in gold. I know that as a fellow mom on a budget, finding a product that has many uses is very valuable. Plus, it’s great to live a natural lifestyle.
Important Tip: Make sure to use organic coconut oil or even better organic virgin coconut oil.
The Many Ways To Use Coconut Oil
- To Take Care Of Your Teeth And Mouth
Using coconut oil can help with foul breath and other dental problems. You can also use the oil to whiten and clean your teeth if used the right way.
In other terms, it helps to prevent tooth decay that can otherwise bring fetid smell in your mouth.
It is said that coconut oil attacks the bacteria in your mouth that can cause bad smell and at the same time can stop tooth decay.
2. Coconut Oil As An Anti-inflammatory
Coconut oil is known to contain lauric acid that is known to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
3. Oil Those Muscles
The MCTS that you get from coconut oil (read more about that here) are good for upping your body’s energy expenditure and burn calories. The MCTs are also used in popular muscle developments.

4. To Reduce Pain And Fever
In pain and fever, coconut oil may not provide a reliable cure but it does help in its way. If you are suffering from cold sores, then you can dab it as early as possible or even take it internally. Cold sores are painful and uncomfortable. To fight them, you have to deactivate the virus that causes them.
This is where coconut oil comes in. It helps in killing and deactivating viruses that cause cold sores.
5. Reducing Hangover
The lauric acid found in coconut oil helps in reducing the negative effects of drinking alcohol. For starters, this acid will help kill bacteria in the mouth. (Which will in turn reduce the smell of alcohol the morning after drinking.)
This magic oil won’t magically remove the drunken texts you send but it can help you greatly your career life. If you wake up on Monday (or any other workday) with a strong hangover, coconut oil may be the solution for you.

For example, I know quite a few friends that swear that coconut oil is a great moisturizer. It can also help to hydrate your skin and at the same time prevent water loss.
However, you need to know your skin type before applying coconut oil. If you are acne prone then do not use this technique.
11. Wrinkle Remedy
Coconut oil is known to increase the production of collagen and encourages the regeneration of cells in your skin. It effectively fades away wrinkles and makes your skin tight. The anti-oxidant properties of coconut oil protect your skin. It can also increase the production of collagen and eventually speed the recovery process.

Coconut oil is also a well-known natural remedy for dandruff. It is known to moisten your scalp and cure dandruff altogether. , you can reduce flaking and eventually prevent the outbreak of dandruff. I’ve noticed myself that coconut oil is a known moisturizer that is used in various shampoos.

If you rub coconut oil on your dry nail beds, then they will get moisturized. Again, another great way to to take advantage of coconut oil’s moisturizing properties.
14. Coconut Oil Pulling
One of the amazing benefits of coconut oil is its importance in maintaining oral health. Coconut oil pulling has been around for ages and it is very effective in removing harmful bacteria from the teeth, thereby maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
Organic coconut oil is a highly effective antibiotic. Coconut oil pulling essentially involves using coconut oil in the manner in which you would use a modern mouthwash. The term ‘pulling’ is thought to arise from the belief that the oil pulls the bacteria away from the mouth and this isn’t very far from the truth. Studies have shown that coconut oil pulling is more effective in maintaining oral hygiene than flossing. The fatty acids present in coconut oil are capable of penetrating your hair shaft and replenishing the lost nutrients in the scalp. Coconut oil is quite effective when used alone but it may still be mixed with other ingredients such as apple cider vinegar or avocado.
